Rainbow City Park – “Fruitless” EP
Press Release
Rainbow City Park is thrilled to announce their debut EP, “Fruitless” – out February 4th, 2025. This five-song collection is a diverse representation of the band’s sonic range while blending introspective lyrics with rich melodies.
The title track, “Fruitless” opens the EP with swirling guitars that create an ethereal soundscape while pulling the listener forward with driving percussion. Drawing influence from shoegaze royalty DIIV and My Bloody Valentine, “Fruitless” crescendos into a three-headed guitar dance, before collapsing into the final chorus. Frontwoman Danielle Judith grapples with the notion that sometimes our best efforts can feel insufficient and unfolds this theme without resolution.
The second track, “Chalk” emerges as the standout pop single, blending melodic vocal stylings reminiscent of Taylor Swift with the alt-rock energy of Paramore. A reflective account of a personal relationship, Judith takes the listener through the arc of a two-year discussion with lines like, “23 months of flattery, with moments that could fill galleries, imagine none of that mattering”. Then empowers herself through the second half of the song, bookending the bridge with, “at least you taught me something that is worth it, he who hesitates gets deserted”.
“Water Under The Bridge” closes the EP, unwrapping the themes of the previous four songs in a heartfelt, dynamic ballad. Organic studio blips, acoustic guitar and a muted piano are introduced sounds not yet heard throughout the collection and provide a fresh palette for Judith’s important question, “when do I get to call this water under the bridge?” With sonic parallels to the back half of Third Eye Blind’s self-titled 1997 album, RCP makes an emotional closing statement and leaves many of the questions presented in the record unanswered, inviting the listener to fill in their own conclusion.
The EP was tracked over a weeklong residency at the Panoramic House with Mike Davis, known for his work with Pool Kids, Lo Moon and Great Grandpa. A longstanding mixing collaborator with RCP, this was Davis’ first full production effort with the band, and he informed so many signature moments throughout the collection. “Fruitless” was mastered by Ed Brooks, recognized for his work with Pearl Jam, Death Cab for Cutie and Fleet Foxes.
